Actor Willie Aames, once one of television’s biggest teen stars, experienced a dramatic rise and fall before rebuilding his life. At just 19, Aames reportedly earned over $1 million a year while starring as Tommy Bradford in the hit TV series Eight Is Enough, which drew millions of viewers in the late 1970s.
Despite early success and later roles such as Buddy Lembeck in Charles in Charge, Aames struggled with addiction and financial problems for years. By the late 2000s, he had filed for bankruptcy, lost his home, and even experienced a period of homelessness.
Determined to start over, Aames took a job installing satellite equipment before later working on cruise ships, where he eventually became a cruise director and traveled to more than 120 countries.
His life took another positive turn when he reconnected with longtime pen pal Winnie Hung, whom he married in 2014. Now in his mid-sixties, Aames continues working in creative projects and often shares his story as an example of resilience and second chances.
