There are plenty of fascinating facts about people with blue eyes.
For starters, they tend to be more sensitive to light. According to Auckland Eye, higher levels of melanin in the iris provide greater protection against UV radiation and blue light damage at the back of the eye. Because blue eyes contain less melanin than darker eye colors, photophobia — or increased sensitivity to light — is more common.
While that might sound like a downside, there are also some surprising upsides.
Research conducted by University of Louisville professor Joanna Rowe suggests that people with blue eyes may be stronger strategic thinkers. The findings, reported by the Daily Mail, point to an observed link between eye color and certain cognitive strengths.
However, Rowe emphasizes that the connection hasn’t been scientifically explained. “It is just observed rather than explained,” she noted. “There’s no scientific answer yet.”
